I was wondering if anyone has been on cyclosporine. My doc has thrown that out there as a possible treatment option for me. I've been reading about
it and it sounds scary. Anyone have any advice or input about
it? Thanks.

It's used more in UC than in Crohn's. In UC they sometimes use it as a rescue medication for somebody who is flaring badly and about
to need a colectomy. It works fairly well in that situation but isn't really considered a long-term "maintenance" treatment.
For Crohn's, it's not used very often, but it could be considered if somebody has failed other meds (including remicade, humira, cimzia, etc).

I asked my doc about
it, and I think he said what beave said about
it not being considered a maintenance therapy. I am pretty sure (it's been a year since I asked) that he said it would be used to get me into remission, but something else would need to hold me in remission. I don't know much about
it beyond that. I'd love to hear what you learn though!

I have been on it in the past but only short term and it certainly helped with no side effects to speak of - if your doc thinks if has merit for you I don't think it is any scarier than a lot of other drugs we try like humira, remicade etc and if it brings remission may be worth the risk. Good Luck :)
