hey everyone...
i thought i was healed from cronh's. i'm dramatically better - i used to have bowl movements up to 15 times a day, but then i spontaneously got better. my doctor thinks that my birth control excited my predisposition towards cronhs, and i think he's right-- because now that i'm off it, i am basically cured...
problem is, now i am really constipated. it's so weird. i can't believe this is my problem, since in the past, it was totally opposite. is this constipation 'part' of the cronhs disease itself, do you think? or do you think it is a good thing - perhaps my body is just getting itself back together?
ah so frustrating.
thanks for your help :)

I have no idea but I've seen a few posts on here with people talking about
constipation so I think that might be one of the problems as well? If you have constipation, you could get an obstruction, right? I think that is one aspect of it.

I wouldn' t think so as i get it or i'm running to the bathroom. Dr's don't really mention not being able to go. But I am finding a few of us do suffer the same problem .

I have bad constipation from a stricture at my TI. Also, my first symptom before diagnosis was constipation and then D, very, very bad D.
Just be careful...hope you feel better.

I read your post again, and it sounds like you hsould have a gi, if you don't have one, and get colonoscopy, you need cleanse anyway. since your prior crohns, it sounds like something is going on.

In my case, no.
Honestly, you should get checked out. In 2009 I was going 8-10x a day. Then I started on a tricyclic antidepressant and my BMs slowed to about
half that rate. Over the next six months they continued to slow down even further. By December I was barely going once a day and struggling to avoid becoming impacted.
Like you, I wondered if the much reduced BMs meant I was healing. But I didn't
feel
like a healed person. A colonoscopy in April 2010 confirmed that; instead of having a nice healthy gut, I had severe Crohn's.
But that said, you might really be in remission and there might be other reasons for your current constipation woes. But you should find out, rather than assume the Crohn's is gone.

I didn't mind the constipation when I had that problem - but it turned out that I was actually having bowel obstructions and I needed surgery because my intestines were so inflamed that barely anything could pass. If you have any sort of pain along with the constipation, or nausea... I would be concerned about
it. For me, it was actually a CT enterography that found the problem... no other tests saw the severity the way that test did. Again, though, your Crohn's may actually be in remission unless you do have other symptoms accompanying it. I hope for your sake that you are just getting better. Good luck!

Mareve there is NO cure from Crohns, so you may be in remission, but you are not cured.
Constipation can sometimes be caused by narrowing or stricturing of your intestines. I would highly recommend you seeing a GI soon, as I would hate for things to go downhill fast for you.
I use stool softners nightly in order to keep things softer and easier to pass. Are you taking any meds to keep your Crohns in check? You should be on meds all the time, even in remission to keep the CD in check. JMHO
Hugs!
