Hello everyone just to give you a background on my situation, I have had Crohn's now for about 4 yrs. I was on Remicade up until about 2 months ago and have now started Humira. While on Remicade I went in and out of periods where I was symptom free and then periods of bad flares... I also started getting terrible sinus infections a couple years ago especially in the winter time and I have never suffered from these before. Currently in the past 4 months I have had 3 sinus infections... the last one one I am still dealing with and have been sick along with it for the past month. I can't get over it. I have been on three different antibiotics and from the antibiotics delevoped yeast overgrowth in my mouth, espophagus, and intestine. Oh and to top it all off I am flaring and have diahrrea 10-15 times a day. I am so frustrated!!! Starting the Humira 6 wks ago probably hasn't helped and escalated things more than anything. Does anyone have any suggestions on supplements to take or any ideas on how to prevent sinus infections and boost the immune system? I know the Humira suppresses my immune system but I was hoping there was something out there that could help me fight things a little better. Sorry so long!!! I would appreciate all the help I can get!!!

I'm writing to you not to scare you, but to give you a little more info. I was also on Humira and found it to be very helpful, for the most part, until I developed infective endocarditis as a result of an abscess. Humira is known to causes abscesses, it's also known to cause sinus infections. Two friends of mine with Crohn's were being treated with Humira and both of them battled chronic sinus infections. Both of them lost their voices because of it as well- one for 1 year, the other for a year and a half. Humira can seriously depress your immune system and cause very very serious problems. If it weren't for the fact that I was in nursing school at the time and aware of the symptoms of sepsis, I may not have survived the infection I had. If there are any other drugs out there that are a possibility for you, I would strongly urge you to discuss those with your GI doc. I know there are plenty of people that do just fine with Humira, but because you are already struggling with symptoms related to a depressed immune system, this concerns me quite a bit. I hope I haven't scared you, I just don't want to see anyone else suffer the way myself and my friends have.

Have you tried probiotics or Vitamin D? I used to have terrible sinus / allergy problems and have only minor ones now. I take D3 and a probiotic that is for the sinuses. It is by Sedona labs, it really helped me, I used to get sinus headaches so bad I thought I had migraines.

Thank you for both of your comments... I really appreciate the advice! I am already currently taking vit D3 but will definitely look into the probiotic for my sinuses. Thanks a lot!
