Newly diagnosed Crohn's.

I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis in Oct 2009 - which was ashock to both my GP and myself and was referred to a GI specialist. During 2010 i continued to be anaemic and has some poor liver function results from my GP. I went to my annual GI appt armed with letters and results and had more tests which resulted in new diagnosis after colonoscopy. I am not thin!! and have not lost weight is this common?

When I was first diagnosed, I was down to 86lbs. Now, at my sickest, I am 150lbs. Weight should not be an indicator of wellness or illness. Only lab results, radiology results, and scopes should be used to determine how ill a person is/is not. If a doctor told me I was not sick because my weight is on the high side, I'd run like the wind. He doesn't know his stuff, IMHO.

i am on the thin side...not by choice mind u. i just can't eat alot of things..so i stay skinny ( to thin if u ask me) i've just started the remicade and am going for the 2nd round on tues.

I was of normal weight when first diagnosed; it took years before I started losing weight.

Any doctor who would use a person's weight as a guide to whether they had Crohn's or not is an idiot, imo. If the Crohn's is mild or in its early stages, there probably won't be any weight loss. And not everybody who has Crohn's has severe flare-ups where there is dramatic weight loss - it can be a lot more slow-burning and subtle than that. If a GI doesn't realise that, then they most likely don't know as much about Crohn's as they should.
