Hello All,
After lurking around here for awhile, I thought it was time to sign in officially. I had my first Remicaide treatment today and, though trying to manage my expectations, am extremely hopeful that I gain a new sense of 'normal'.
I was diagnised with Crohn's about 13 years ago and had a bowel resection surgery about 7 years ago. Never really took anything more than loperamide, most recently up to 5 caplets / day. A colonoscopy had my surgeon sending me to a specialist who has since prescrimed Remicaide. That was back in August... during the routine tests to see if I had any underlying diseases (pre-remicaide tests), we found that I had been exposed to tuberculosis!!!! This is not so common these days in canada - my doc figures this probably happened during a holiday in Malaysia a couple of years ago. Anyhow, four months of antibiotics and I am now set to go.
The infusion went really well today. I brought along work from the office and my Black Berry so I had plenty to occupy my time with. I felt very good when the IV was completed and the nurse offered to let me sign an AMA form and leave. I was wary with it being the first treament and all, but felt great (a little bored maybe). It's afew hours later now and all is well. Looking forward to some very welcomed relief in the coming minutes / hours / days / weeks / months...
