Mirena while on Imuran

I just read the entire Prescribing Information for Mirena [Mirena Info] and could find no mention that taking something like Imuran means you cannot have one. People with certain diseases that have increased risk for infection must be evaluated but that does not mean they cannot have one.

Tubal ligation which is a form of sterilization, is not an open abdominal surgery. It is usually done through a very small opening near the belly button [navel]. I guess if you have lots of abnormalities in your intestines, having a tubal might not be possible. I just read that prior abdominal surgery might make a laproscopic tubal impossible. What does your Obstetrician recommend? Hopefully someone here will have more info than I do.

I had the Mirena put in in June. I was not on anything except pentasa at the time - but since then have been on prednisone, tried imuran and 6mp (reacted to them) and I am now on Remicade. I have never been told that there is a problem to be doing both, and I don't see why it would be an issue. It took about 5-6 months for my IUD to fully settle in to a rhythm - but it has been a blessing for me - I finally have normal iron levels for the first time ever - and only have a couple days of spotting a month - hardly any bleeding.
The only thing I can think of is that there is a mild risk of infection when an IUD is first inserted - but my gyno gave me a few days of antibiotics to take right after to just eliminate any possibilities of infection happening and I was fine in that regard.

That sounds encouraging, I found only that Mirena could mean a greater risk of pelvic infection. However, I never had any problems in this area and even though I am on Imuran, I do not feel my immune system would be any worse than before I started taking it. Hopefully this won´t be a problem after all.
