Methotrexate how affective

Hi everyone,  I was wondering if anyone out there has been on methotrexate injections long term ?  My daughter has been on them to control her joint since September and it seems to have done the trick.  However it didnt stop her massive flare of CD that has lead to a small boweel resection.  The Dr's are saying that now she has had the op Methotrexate alone will ward of and further flare ??  I am a bit dubious about this as it did nothing to stop the flare that lead to the op.  SHe was on Infliximab infusions which they are saying are now not needed.  As you can probably tell I dont have  a great deal of faith in the medical profession after months of being messed around.

SO anybody out there can give me some advice should I insist on continuing the infliximab ??

I think I agree with her doctor. Her Crohns must have had alot of scar tissue, thats why the meds didn't work before. Because meds will not do anything for scar tissue. But since she has had the surgery now, give it another go, you might just be surprised. Good luck!

Yes, mtx shots work for years for some people, but very simply it takes months to reach effectiveness, and seeing she has not been dx for very long it seems like she was probably on an RA doseage, rather then a crohn's doseage which is more for me. 

In fact it has been the only thing that has worked for me in more then 5 years of being dx.  I tried all the oral meds, remi, and humira and they did not work, but this very old drug worked very well for me.

I don't have any experience with that medication but I wish your daughter luck. I agree with Nanners, that's what I was thinking.

I just wanted to add, I can completely understand where you are coming from about loosing faith in the medical world, because my parents felt the same way. I don't know the full story so this may be irrelevant. But I just wanted to say don't loose faith I've learned that the disease is partly to blame. It is such a individual disease, what works for one won't work for another, so I've come to terms with there might be a lot of trial and error before you find the perfect recipe. Keep faith in the fact that your daughter and doctor will find what works best for her, it just may take a few tries.

Thanks everyone, back to hospital on Wednesday for first check up after op. Will have a good chat with Gastro team then. Just really anxious that we get on top of it and have a long remission. Good news is today she has so much energy can't keep up with her tidied her room making plans with friends it's like I got my old Beth back :-)
