pred--divided or all at once?

do you guys find that splitting up your prednisone dose helps ameliorate some of the insomnia--or makes it worse?

i'm on a 40mg dose until the 10th (when my MD board exams are over) and my doc put me on the 40mg as a stop gap until i can get a colonoscopy to find out what is going on, because clearly my Tysabri, after 30 months of hard work, is failing. i asked my doc about LDN and he basically laughed at me and said i was too far gone to even consider that, although i don't see what the harm would have been of at least giving it a try.


side note--i went out and bought the liquid bee propolis drops today, and have been putting them under my tongue. tastes kinda nasty but it absorbs really quickly and then the flavor is gone.

please send good vibes this way, i'm in need.

I remember on my Pred bottle it said to take it before 8am. That frequently didn't happen for me though because I'd sleep in on days when I didn't have school/work.

I couldn't take pred without plenty of help for sleep. I couldn't handle the other side effects from pred. jitter's, C, and when I would feel gas coming and building up to get rid of. it would just roll around and give me the sharpest gas pain, low, above pubic area. But so bad that I would have to get in bed, and then if I could release some gas, it would just kinda squeak out, no relief. pred got my flare down in my mouth and throat. as soon as it would settle I would wean down.

My gi told me that steroids should be taken when you wake up in the morning because that is when your body normally/naturally releases its own cortisol or whatever into your body, and hence that is when your body is expecting to receive it.

Wish I could take mine in the morning but it makes me so braindead that I'm afraid I'd screw up at work; I've been taking mine in the afternoon.

I must be the odd one out! Every time I was on Pred I would divide the dose, 20 in the morning and 20 in the evening, simply because i couldnt handle the side effects, shaking, irregular heart rhythm and blurred vision. It decreased the symptoms alot by splitting the dose but I also took Ambein to help me sleep. Still do actually.

I had a doctor recommend once to split the dose. I can't take predisone in the evening without it interfering with my sleep. I take it first thing in the morning being on it for awhile it does not bother me. In the beginning, I was put on 40 mg I think, and I had moodiness and insomnia. I was able to eat fairly normal for the first time. I have had massive weight gain from long term usage. I have been on 10mg for along time.
