Starting Budesonide - What to expect?

Well, after much thoughts and consultation, I am giving up and starting medication although I have no obvious symptoms. All tests, unfortunately, point to CD, and the doctors convince me that I cannot ignore the illness. As a wrote before, I was detected last October 2010 in a routine every 5 years colonoscopy.

I was given a prescription for 9 mg the first month followed by 6 mg for the next 2 months. Then do blood tests and see the doctor again.

What can I expect in terms of side effects when I start the medication? The doctor said nothing special, but doctors say many things.

This med is a steroid like Pred, without many of the side effects of Prednisone. When I took it I never had any side effects. Some have had good luck with quieting a flare down. Hope it works well for you. Hugs~

I am on 9mg now with cipro and flagyll for a flare but my specialist wouldn't put me on a steroid if I wasn't symptomatic.

In the past I have taken 9mg for 3 months to acheive remission.

I prefer it to prednisone as I don't have any side effects and it seems to settle me down quite well.

Erwin, I've taken it and it was a very effective med for me (resolved my hand pain, which was my main complaint). It is not a long-term med, though, since after a while most people will experience the typical side effects of steroids (insomnia, weight gain, etc.).  By "long term," I mean longer than 6 months.

I did well on entocort. I took it frequently and it always did the trick..with no side effects. After awhile though i couldn't stay off for very long so i had to move up the medicine ladder. Good luck!

I've used it twice and it worked pretty well to quiet the symptoms I was having. Though when I was symptomatic, it always took longer to kick in...like 10-14 days as opposed to 40mgs of Pred that took hours. So it has drawbacks if the disease is making you kind of miserable.

I've almost no side effects. I get the occasional bouts of insomnia, which means it takes me a few extra hours to fall asleep. Though that was better then Pred where I'd run around on 2 hours of sleep a night.

Overall, it's a pretty awesome med.
