Proctitis

Is it possible to have proctitis without having crohns or ulcerative colitis? Can having a stomach virus bring on proctitis?

I just had a colonoscopy today and was told I have proctitis. On my discharge sheet it says no c.diff and no IBD. But I called the office and spoke to the nurse who told me they can't rule out IBD until the biopsy comes back. She said the rest of my colon looked great and that they did not see any ulceration anywhere. They thought the prep for the colonoscopy may have been what caused the proctitis. They said that's common. But my symptoms of passing a little blood(no diarrhea) and the urgency to have BM started right after my family got over a stomach virus.

I'm annoyed because I was led to believe I was in the clear based on what my discharge paper says. But now I won't know anything until the biopsy comes back. They didn't find anything else and there were no polyps. I have to take the enema medication every night before bed for 14 days. The biopsy results should be back in 7-10 days. I swear this will be the longest 7-10 days of my life.

I agree with kazbern......i was first diagnosed with proctitis and kept having symptoms for over a year. my doctor seemed very unconcerned with my continued problems and did the whole canasa..rowasa...cortifoam thing.....i just recently changed GIs and was diagnosed with crohns which subsuquently already spread throughout my large intestine...if your doc isnt listening or the symptoms getting too much to bare change your doc....hope you feel better chrissy
