remicade vs humira

does anyone know the difference between remicade and humira? It seems a lot of dr's r prescribing remicade. I have been dx with Crohn's for

almost 15 years now. I was on asacol and lialda. was doing fine until Dec

of 2010 and have had 6 surgeries for peri rectal abscess. I am now going

to start humira and don't really know why I wouldn't start the remicade..

also going to Mexico in a month..can you have a cocktail even one on this

medication?

There are a few differences between Remicade and Humira. Remicade is made with mouse protein, so you're more likely to build up antibodies to it, while Humira is made with human proteins. Remicade is administered via IV infusion, while Humira is through an injection. I believe Remicade is supposed to help well with perianal disease, I'm not sure about Humira.

I've been on both, started with Remicade, but it lost its effectiveness, and am on Humira now, but I don't think it's ever worked. Humira is definitely more convenient. I'm not a drinker, but I think you can drink while on both of them, but obviously I would check the paperwork you get with Humira.
