Crohn's in the mouth

I keep getting inflammation in my mouth only on the right side.  This is the third time this has happened.  Originally the docs thought i had some sort of herpes virus and put me on an anti viral drug.  Well it came back now a second and third time.  I am on remicade and it seems that the biologics are causing me to have swollen gums, bleeding gums, swollen cheek, and sores on the inside of my mouth.  Also the roof of my mouth all the way down feels like freddy kruger took his nails and scraped me all the way down.  Weird thing is like I said it's only on the right side of my mouth.  Also my lip is swollen and when i smile it's crooked.  The last time this happened I was on Humira then Cimizia the second time.  Going to the doc again tomorrow to have him look at me and tell me once and for all what the hell is going on.  He also keeps sending me to an ENT.  I don't think it has anything to do with that.  Anyone have a similiar experience?  What's your take on this?  I'm so annoyed and aggrivated with this stupidity.  Thank you all

I used to get really bad ulcers in my mouth, especially on the roof of my mouth in the middle and near my molars, it burned and was very painful (eating/drinking was horrible) ever since I started taking a good probiotic daily I've never had the issue again and it's been about 6 yrs now, that's the longest I've gone without having any mouth issues so I feel confident fully crediting the probiotics for that.

lestrouble, it's more than likely not herpes that bella is dealing with...it's quite common to get inflamation in the mouth when you have crohn's since CD can affect any part of the GI tract from mouth to anus.

Personally I think pred is a pretty hard core med to use for the mouth ulcers...I used to get really deep ones in the roof of my mouth and since taking probiotics daily I've never had a single issue with them returning so maybe try a good probiotic before you invest your body with pred...of course I'm no doctor and I speak from experiance which often is more valid than what many docs throw out there to their patients in how to deal with CD issues, so I'm just suggesting you try a good probiotic. If you're already taking probiotics then maybe try taking more or finding a better brand. Good luck with it bella, I know how incredibly painful those mouth sores can be and I'm so glad I haven't had issues with them since I started with proboitcs.

hey Bella; I have cd pretty bad in esoph. throat,mouth, and leasions on my tongue, pred. was the only thing that flared in down, I mean what my mouth and throat felt like, that's what it felt like swallowing anything,evan water would hurt. so I would loose a lot of weight, not good for me. so when I am in long term flare, its always in throat,esoph. mouth tongue, same thing. pain med's don't really work for mouth and throat cd. Funny when I was on rem. thats the only thing that cleared that up, other than pred. I built up anti's from rem. so thats over. I was in car accident, hit from behind, me stopped, them 65mph. within 5 days I was in flare in throat, started then went into mouth with cankers and then tongue got super inflammed, my gi at first wanted to send me to ENT. as well, this was last time I was flaring in throat(it swells and food gets stuck) I've had ER endoscope to remove a piece of chicken. So now after this one, he put me back on pred 40mg and wants me on humira. But I'm on pred down to 25mg and 150mg of immuran and 4 asacol daily. So I can eat, no swelling in throat anymore, cankers are gone, check doesn't feel like I've had egg beaters whipping around, so I know pred. cleared it up, asacol works good for small bowel cd, It seems only biologics clear up my throat, I feel like immuran is beginning to work, it's been since 5/15 accident and 6/3 started pred, had started immuran about a week before, so right now I'm working on getting this flare in my throat in remission, I also have to do physical therapy (accident) 3 days a week. So weird because I had just started taking asacol, and it started working on small bowel and BM's with in 3 days, so I was so proud that I acceived remission with just asacol, pain med's when needed, then BAM! accident, and right back into huge flare. But thats my procedure for now, I need to slowly wean down on pred to be certain. good luck, Bella treating mouth cd is really hard without pred.

Thanks everyone for your input.  I have not started taking the pred b/c honestly I dont want to take it.  I hate prednisone.  I think it's the worst drug there is.  Fortunately the swelling in my lip has gone away.  my throat and mouth feel a lot better.  My throat is still sort of bothering me but it's definitly way better than what it was.  I have no idea why and how come this happens but it's so annoying.  Anything that comes in contact with my mouth including just water makes me want to cry.  but thankfully it has seemed to somewhat have resolved on its own without the prednisone.  Thanks for the advice about taking a probiotic.  I am not currently taking one.  Do you have a specific brand that you recommend?  Any information would be great.  Thank you all again and hope everyone is feeling "good".
