What do u take when you get joint pain and they stiffen???

Hello Guys

Hope everyone is doing ok?

Its been 6 week since i had the small section of where the small meet the large intestine removed.

Since then I been gettin awful Joint pain and if I am in one position all day they tighten and it hard to move.

Before the op i was alway achey but never stiffens up like now! (i have been constant flaring since op)

Im on calichew but not been put back on azathiprine as yet!

Does any have anything they can recommend as doctor cant see me for a whole week and I cant sleep xx

Well since we can't use things such as Ibruprofen or Aleve the only option for us is something like Tylenol Arthritis. I use my prescription pain meds to help my joint pain.

I would also suggest a referral to a Rheumatologist. Could be you have developed Fibromyalgia. But we are also more prone to arthritis problems too. Hugs!

Why cant we use Ibruprofen? never heard of this?
Thanks for tips going to get onto IBD Nurse to try get to doctors

Studies have shown that NSAIDs, anti inflammatory drugs, can cause stomach and duodenal (upper portion of the small intestine) ulcers. These drugs also can worsen symptoms of Crohns disease and ulcerative colitis. NSAIDs anti inflammatory drugs can increase bleeding and cause inflammation of the small intestine. They also may trigger the recurrence of the disease in those who are in remission.

I never get told anything lol i normally take parcetmol anyway

Thats one thing about this forum, I have learned so much since joining. Its like lactose intolerance, no one ever told me that could be an issue with Crohns. So you are not alone!! Hugs!

Ibprofen gave me a g.I. Bleed one time, I know it works for pain, but I actually list it as an "allergy" on medical paperwork.
I get real stiff to then go for walk and feel better. I realize you just had surgery and may not be able to, that may be why you are so stiff. But as soon as you feel better, try walking even though it hurts at first, you always feel better afterwards.

My Gi told me no NSAIDS. I take 1/2 a loritab when it gets too bad. Also taking a hot bath helps. I've also been seeing a chiropractor.

Joint pain is really bad - for a long time that was my main complaint, not the bowels but my painful hands.

I started taking sulfasalazine a few years ago and it has really helped relieve my joint pain. Is your DR leaving you off Crohn's meds since you had a resection? That doesn't sound like a good idea. If you are not going to take azathriopine talk to your GI about sulfasalazine. In the meantime, I think the best advice for stiff joints is to keep moving and use moist heat alternating with ice when you are sore. There isn't an oral OTC med that will do a darn bit of good.

Joint pain is a real problem for me too. Stiff. I take a pain med and heating pad and warm baths.

I have a very kind husband who will "pull" my wrists and ankles and knuckles when they are sore....unfortunately i won't share him with anyone. I definitely avoid the NSAIDs as the throw me into a flare pretty quickly. I am big on my heating pad and long showers. At the office, I have a small bottle that I can fill with ice or hot water and wrap my hands around it when they get sore.
