So as some of you may remember my mom suffered a traumatic brain injury snowboarding out in Reno, NV. (We live in ME).
I'm going to take you all the way back to June. Mom got the Okay from the Dr. to travel back east, her friend accompanied her on the flight to Boston. My dad, brother and I picked her up and went straight to a Neuro rehab facility a half hour north of us. By this point mom was able to walk with a walker assisted and had started walking with cane. Still no improvement with left arm. Short term memory and cognitive were slowly improving. It was nice having her closer to home to be able to see her improvements and talk to the professionals face to face instead of all over the phone.
Mom was doing great and making great strides until our insurance decided that my mom didn't need 24/7 care anymore, which of course she was far from. So we fought and fought with the insurance company bought a few more weeks. Mom came home on August 12th. At first I was terrified but as we started to fall more into a routine things have been going really well.
She started off with in home services, speech, occupational and physical therapy. Which was nice as she got used to being home but she was not benefiting from them at all as she only recieved a few hours a week and they weren't always on time, made it very difficult to plan our days. So last week she started outpatients therapy which has been great, they keep her for three hours a day and hope to go three days a week. She is really doing well.
thanks for all the kind words you all shared with me as we went through this journey
as for me, I am doing the best I have ever felt. I started taking Lomotil to slow down BM's since I was still having 6 a day or so, Immodium gave me really bad cramps so I was nervous about
taking something else, but boy has it been my saving grace. I took it twice a day for about
a week and now I'm down to about
2 BM's a day and formed! Now I take it every other day. Since food is staying in me longer I have gained 7 pounds in the last week or so! I'm finally back over 100!!
Tomorrow I have a CT scan just to check things out since I haven't had one on my Abdomen since I was diagnosed.
..AND FRIDAY IS MY 21ST BIRTHDAY!
I was kind of bumming since all my friends went back to school, but my brother has something special planned for me!
Thanks again all!
Hope all is well!
