Does it really matter what kind of prep you do? My GI gave me directions for the golytely prep, and unfortunately I didn't think to ask why that prep instead of the miralax prep. I've not done it, but the miralax was so much less painful than the other one I did that I can't remember now.

I'm feeling rebellious today and thinking that I'll just do the miralax prep tomorrow, but I'm a big instruction follower so then I feel a twinge of guilt for not doing what I'm told.

Anyway--I'm nervous so I think I'm obsessing over the prep to keep my mind off worrying about the scope will show. :-P

I think that from the doctors perspective, if youre clean, thats the goal. I would stick with what you know works.

I find they always tell me to take the prep too close to the procedure time and i'm crapping myself in the car. So now i bump up the times by 3 hours so i have more time..

You are so right about the times they give you for the prep being too close to the procedure. I set my alarm and get up at least 2 hours sooner than instructed and it's a good thing because I know I would not be ready to leave for my scheduled appointment.

As far as the prep, golytely is awful but gets the job done. A gallon is so much to drink though. I used Moviprep last time and it was a half gallon and much easier. I used lime wedges to suck on before and after drinking and it helped a lot. If you know that Miralax works though and you find it easier, why not check with the doctor and see if he'll approve it? Anyway, good luck.

I had my colonoscopy a week ago. My doctor's office sent me the half-lytlely prep. He knows I can't possibly take it, I gag just talking about it. Usually he will give me the Osmo-prep pills, but the staff just sent out the forms, and I didn't call and get the script. I decided to do the miralax, and was so happy I did! When I got to the facility, he asked about how the prep had gone and what prep was used. I 'fessed up and told him what I had done. He scolded me a bit for not calling for the pills, because he knows me so well, but otherwise, I was good to go. As long as you are cleaned out, they don't care how you get there!

I agree with all the above, go with what works for "you"! Cleaned out is cleaned out. Good luck with your scope:) Hugs!

Whats up with taking 4 litres of prep? Holy crap.

I take pico salax and you only mix it with 6oz or so, i thought that was bad enough! Though you need 2 pouches, so 2 glasses of foul stuff. Still better than a keg of it!

Did he prescribe the plain or flavored golytely? I ask just because I used to be always prescribed the cherry/flavored golytely and had a horrible time with it. Then 2 scopes I have done Miralax which I did like better but kept me up later and going longer, didn't clean me out as fast which I didn't like, but it was easier to drink.

Well I just had a prep 2 weeks ago while in the hospital. If you have to prep in the hospital they only give you one option - GoLytely, but it was the plain. At first I was totally bummed and thinking I can't do this. But actually the plain golytely went down really easy. Easier than both the flavored golytely and Miralax.

Not sure why, just my personal experience but the plain was just like a little bit thicker water and it cleaned me out quicker so I got more sleep.

But I agree with all the above, they just want you clean and scope ready so I would do what works best for you.

Thanks everyone!!

So I'm making up my own prep today. I only had a half a thing of Miralax, so I drank a liter of the Golytely and then the miralax. Since my scope is in the afternoon tomorrow, I have to drink a liter of the golytely in the morning too. I'm glad I didn't try to drink just the golytely. It's the unflavored one, but it's definitely making me nauseous and I almost threw up once. :-( On the plus side, I have to say I agree with cupcakespinkgal, it does clear you out quickly!!

Next time I will definitely speak up and say I want to do the miralax prep! What kind of person dreams up these preps?! :-D

Hopefully things will look good on the inside tomorrow! I've been feeling good so fingers crossed.

I survived the prep, and everything went smoothly for the colonoscopy. I was worried because I had to have an anesthesiologist, but yeah for not waking up in the middle or not having trouble getting knocked out! :-D

Unfortunately still some inflammation and ulcers around my terminal ileum. I'll see the GI next week to find out whether I'm trying cimzia or methotrexate next. I was hoping to avoid either of them since it took 6-7 months to get over my experiences with humira and remicade, but maybe one of them will work well without making me feel like an 80 year old!!
