For those of you that are far more educated and knowledgeable than I am, perhaps you can read through these intensive findings and paraphrase or post thoughts.

The gist of it seems to be that the course of and treatment of the disease may be able to be predicted based on ones gene profile.

It's an interesting read, but a little, (WAY), beyond me.

All its saying is that now some gastros in advanced hospitals can look for biomarkers to tailor treatment.

Two types of crohn's- set of biomarkers 1 would be people with aggressive disease, need frequent treAtment

Number twos are people with mild crohns who respond well to minor therpies and long periods of remission.

At the onset of disease, when youre first diagnosed, its impossible to tell without this individualized testing whether you're a group 1 or group 2. If youre a group 1 (have a future of severe, resistant disease) they should start with the big gubs like remicade to slow damage and disease progression. However, if youre in group 2, its not worth the risk to start with the big guns if you' d be fine just on asacol or something.
