Hi Ladies and some gentlemen u know who u r lol,,,since I was 16 my period had stopped all together the docs claimed it was normal cause I was so under weight how ever it never returned until a month ago after 26 years of being absent I didn't know what the hell it was and went 2 the doc right away whom is now sending me 2 a OBGYN cause he now believes it was not normal at all,,,so my question is did this happen 2 anyone of u ladies I'm now 36 years old and have been bleeding very heavily since 5 and a half weeks straight will it continue and raise its ugly head after all these years it also prevented me from having babies the only dream I really had what would u do???? cry

My period comes only once a year if I don't take birth control. I've never been regular. I got my period at 16 and it would come only about half dozen times a year and last for at least 15 days. It was extremely heavy, I would have to have an overnight pad, plus a super plus tampon, and I'd go through that within 30 mins, sometimes 15 mins. High school was so rough; had several times when i had to call home and get a change of clothes. At 18, my OBGYN put me on bc to regulate my periods. I went off bc in January, had a 2day period in April and that's it. Haven't had one since! I get cramps and bloating every month but no period. I'm trying to get pregnant. I'm 30, and would like to have a baby asap. I have a gyno appt next week and see if there's anything wrong, functionally, to prevent me from getting pregnant. If everything's ok, as it has been in the past, and see about going on Clomid....

Onthecan, (love that handle), you can have bleeding for a variety of reasons unrelated to a normal cycle. I had some post menopausal bleeding and it turned out to be a cervical polyp that needed to be removed. It is a very good idea to get unusual bleeding checked out. Hope it is nothing to worry about and glad you are going to see someone about it.

Auto immune disease can cause early menopause..I would definetly see the doctor and get an ultrasound and FSH pulled..Some women have a continual bleeding problem due to low hormones..The hormones drop enough to cause a period but do not go up enough to shut one off(a menopausal thing)..I did manage to have children by the age of 25 with sporadic periods..

Normal periods do not last 5 weeks. Please go see your OB/gyn. It's impossible to guess at what could be causing this bleeding.

Make sure your ask your doctor to check your ovaries make sure there are no cyst (this could cause odd/no periods), also maybe consider a HSG test which will see if your tubes are blocked... this can cause no periods, to periods to off the map periods.

look up endometriosis, this can also be a cause and altho nothing can be proven, sciences believe endo and crohn's could be related.

I feel you about the whole baby issue, I'm 27 and been going through this for over a year!! Good luck and keep us posted!

and I agree, no period should last 5 weeks, you must be so anemic right now!!! I know I was when I got off of depro BC shot.

Five weeks is a long time. I would go to the doctor till someone gives you a good answer. Take care of yourself.
