I had a visit with my orthopeadic surgeon yesterday..it was a scheduled appointment for my 3 monthly injections(Durolane) both knees...i had a great chat with him...since i seen him last i've been DX with Crohns so he needed to know that but also i asked him if he still thought i was too young for re-placement surgery ..i'm 49 years old and while this is young enough it's not unheard of....my left knee is worst...grade 4...(the end of the scale) ...he was very sympathetic and said he'd do a scope (my 4th) in January and take some pics and then we'll sit down and talk new knee....seven years i'm suffering like this so i reckon i've put up with it long enough...light at the end of the tunnel at last,Slainte

Geeeez , I'm sorry to hear about your knees. I know how painful it is and how painful the replacement surgery is . My MIL had both knees replaced many years ago . At that time they were suppose to last 15 years but she has had them longer than that . They are stainless and she says they are heavy but the new ones are lighter . She was told she can never kneel down so if she falls she has to scoot along on her rear until she can find a way up . I have installed grab bars all over her house for this reason . You may want to discuss limitations with your doc before you have surgery . Best of luck to you .

I need two knee replacements myself and I am 54. I just keep putting them off though because I am so surgery weary right now. But I feel your pain. My doc will do the surgery and has wanted to for the past 2 years, but I keep putting it off. For me as long as my injections work, I will continue to put it off. Hugs!

Sniper...you're M.I.L did well to get so long out of them...how long they last depends on how actice/young one is when they are replaced..which is why they like to leave it as long as possible...but 12-15 years would be a good period...They are now made from titanium which makes them lighter etc...also they have made many advances in Knee surgery throughout the years incl getting from a 12 inch scar down to a 5/6 inch ...also recovery time has shortened...funny thing is i used to work where they made them...(Stryker orthopaedics)...it's good to hear you're M.I.L is doing so well with them...a lot of the success with the surgery depends on the physio afterwards...thanks for your kind wishes... Anyone had arthritis of the big toe?  If so, has anyone had to have surgery.  Went to Podotrist yesterday said possible surgery.  Sounded horrible.  Thank you.
