My scope went well today but it's a good news/bad news sort of thing. Good news is that there isn't any active disease in my neo ileum or into the small bowel. Bad news is there is active disease in my rectal area. So he is scripting Rowensa (?) enemas. I've never used these before so is there anything I need to know? Are they easy to use?

Off to rest & pass some more gas..............

Great!! Congrats that things went on well. I have chronic proctitis. I used to take Pentasa enema (like Rowensa - never used it before). The comfort you will feel after using the enema for some time and the subsiding of the rectal pain will make you forget about the idea of an enema (I never liked enemas but am forced now(:. Well, you have to take the enema before bedtime so as to retain it during the night. So, you need to have a bowel movement before taking the enema in order to absorb it. Lubricate the nozzle of the enema with a gel or lidocaine to facilitate its insertion. There will be excessive gas when you insert it and cramps but resist having a bowel movement and this feeling of urgency will go on its own.

I never worried about having a bowel movement before using the enema - my motility issues don't make that quite workable. I just used the enema as directed and it worked fine.

Here's a tip I picked up from the UC forum - gently squeeze the air out of the enema bottle before inserting the tip. It will be fine if you don't do that, you'll just feel the air bubble in your colon and that isn't so pleasant.

Wow, I"m so freaking tired today! I've never been this tired the day after a scope. Anyone else have this?

Yes, I have felt like I got hit by a truck after each of my scopes. Dehydration, poor sleep during prep, weird sleep after anesthesia, etc. etc. Give yourself some time to recover!

Great news about the sm. intestines. I hope your doc will get the proctitis under control quickly.

Hey, Kazbern, my hubby has describe it as being shot at and missed and chit at and hit. Always seemed like an apropos description to me.

Another of his favorites is feeling like he's dying and afraid he won't.

I've used Salofalk suppositories (which did not work for me and they sucked) and cortifoam, which I love and it's the only thing that gets my proctitis under control....I only use it at night just before bed, being a foam it's not messy and doesn't leak out of me which is the other thing I love about it.

I find the longer I wait to use rectal meds when needed, the longer I end up having to take them so it's good that you're on top of it and I hope it clears up for you quickly.

All I can state is....
Use lots of vasilne and let the air out before you inject it. Put the cream on the tip and on your rectum should feel more comfortable. Enemas suck! Good luck. Wish you well. God bless.

Or extra virgin olive oil, vasoline has petroleum in it and therefor I personally avoid it but love EVOO because it's all natrual.
