I was diagnosed with Crohn's in 95, but was recently refined to duodenal crohn's, and had resection this November. I was doing well, and now, seems like suddenly, every joint I have hurts so badly I can hardly move. My shoulders, my knees and my fingers. I want so much to have a good attitude, and keep going, but this really hurts. I've tried over the counter stuff, heating pads, massage chairs, nothing works. I missed so much work due to surgery, that I really don't want to miss any more.

I just don't have any support, an only child whose parents are both infirm, I am, by the way, their primary caretaker, as much as I can. I have sitters that are doing most of that right now because I just can't.

Any suggestions? I plan to go back to my GP tomorrow, have an appt with GI Doctor in 2 weeks.

what medications are you taking lynthridge?

about 25% of people with IBD will have joint pain associated with their illness. My advice is to go see a rheumatologist if your Crohn's involves your joints. GIs are good at working on bowel problems, but in my experience they are not well equipped to deal with joint pain.

That being said, it is going to be up to the GI to get you the right medications to address your joint pain, as most believe that joint pain is linked to bowel inflammation - therefore, controlling bowel inflammation will reduce joint pain. I realize you just had a resection in November, and you are probably don't want to think about a return of Crohn's inflammation, but you know the risk is always there.

Some of the meds we take can cause joint pain. Joint pain can be a reaction to a virus. Joint pain might be hormonal. There are lots of causes - that's why a rheumatologist is a good idea.

For the time being, consider adding an omega-3 fatty acid to your pillbox to control inflammation. It won't hurt and might help. A little.

I am not taking any meds for crohn's right now. I am taking vitamin b6, a blood pressure pill and antibiotics for a section of my incision that re-opened and got infected. I have heard that joint inflammation only happens in conjunction with crohn's intestinal flare ups, but the last time I had this problem, not any where near this bad, was during a remission. It feels a little like the disease is punishing me because I re-sectioned it!

I appreciate your advice, I think I'll ask my gp to send me to a rheumatologist. I had the blockage that led to the resection for awhile before I could get any treatment, long story, my drs. kept leaving town, and am just really ready to feel at least human again, so this has disheartened me more than usual.

You might also consider taking vitamin D. Most American adults are low in this essential nutrient, even those without Crohn's. Since you did just lose a portion of your small bowel, it seems likely that you are going to be missing some of the nutrients from your food. Talk to you GP about your vitamin D levels (can be read from a simple blood test) and how to bring yours to the right number.

Thanks. I will. I got osteo biflex, and see that it has vitamin d in it.

I don't know anything about osteo biflex, and personally I don't take any multivitamin or special vitamin blends for certain issues. I just take my 2000 iu of vitamin D. Calcium bothered me, so I don't take that anymore, and as long as I have adequate levels of vitamin D my GP and my OB/Gyn are happy with my bone health.

Before I found out I had chrohns I had miserable joint pain, my vit d level so low I was told I would break a hip. I am not very smart with chrohns, I am new to it actually. but flagyl helped me so did vit d, I get mine online at vital choice. I hate chrons but the people at this site gave me wonderful tips and they made me feel much better about the diagnosis.

Hi, I also have crohn's sinse 95 I have had 3 surgerys. But it seems like after that last one is were I really went down hill with all this joint and muscle pain, but I thought I had it under control until my new GI took me off the steroids. I really would like to know if you found out anything about this problem? Please respond. I don't know how much more pain I bear. Thanks
