What are digestive enzymes?

gumby44, I've not seen any adds on them, but I do take them. I'be been on them for years. If you put in a google search from Crohn's (and or Celiac) and digestive enzymes you will come up with a good amount of info. You need those enzymes to digest foods. I feel they are a help to me. There are many good brands. I take MRM Digest All plant enzymes (I'm not related to this product in any way nor is this an advertisment..I just take it). This one seems to work well for me, but there are many I've not tried that are by name band co's and some of them might work well for you, so be sure to read and on each brand, look at all the ingredients so you know you are taking the product that will be most helpful for you. Digestive enzymes help beak down your food to make digestion easier on your system...natural digestive enzymes include, papaya, kiwi and mangos, if you eat any of those fruits after supper (for example since it's usually the meal with meat for most people) the enzymes in those fruits help break the food down and therefore it's less work on your digestive system.

If you cannot tolerate eating any of those then you can buy digestive enzyme supplements (you'll notice that the flavors of them mimic those of the above mentioned fruits). Many have found them to be quite helpful for their IBD.
