So, are floating stools normal? I seem to be in a flare of some sort and noticed my stools today were floating. I've heard it can be from malabsorption or possible celiac.

I think it is mucous or fat in it. If it just happens for one day, I wouldn't be too concerned about it, unless you have other symptoms

gumby is correct...floating stools usually = too much fat in your stool. With having CD, our absorption issues can cause this problem. Never hurts to double check with your doc.

Yea, I found it interesting since the colitis seems active again, I had bleeding last week and some diarrhea this week. Waiting on an appt with the GI. I've read it may mean something and it may not. I read in one place it could be from something as simple as a lot of gas.

This can be tricky but it depends if it is long term..It can be caused by being exceptionally gassy or can be a sign of malabsorption..I don't really feel you can tell unless it continues..I do agree trying a diet change may help..

I am starting to wonder if I have celiac. Stomach problems, joint pain, it could be IBD or celiac. I got the antibody test a few years ago and that was negative but I hear that doesn't mean much. I'll have to talk to the GI about this. I have another colonoscopy scheduled for March. I think they have to do an endoscopy for celiac to be sure. Then again, if going gluten free would make me feel better overall, I don't care what a d*** test says!
