7 wks pregnant and flare up

I went to er yesterday because of flare up... I'm scared because i am now 7 wks pregnant and really want a healthy baby. I won't be able to see gi doctor til march 15 and wondering if it's safe for me to continue taking asacol.  Have any of you been pregnant with crohns?  If so did you take meds?  What foods did you eat?

Thanks, I've always been able to go out with meds for the past 4 years.. But i would flare up once a year when my eating habits and stress levels would go out of hand. I'm definitley considering the asacol and a healthier eating habit. Do you eat very bland food or are you able to eat whatever because of the meds?

I've taken asacol with all 3 of my pregnancies. It's a class B drug - considered safe. Also - asacol doesn't break down until it gets to the large intestine, that way it has a localized effect instead of a systemic effect on the body. I took all of my meds during my pregnancies. All 3 of my kids are healthy and intelligent. No problems whatsoever.

You may or may not be flaring. A lot of times the shift in hormones at the beginning of pregnancy mimics a flare, but it's really you're body just adjusting. Hopefully that is the case for you. Try not to panic. And ... CONGRATULATIONS!

I would say that sharp pain is not normal but vomiting is, I have done a lot of that in th last 15weeks.
Where is the sharp pain located?

Congratulations on your pregnancy! Unfortunately I had the same thing happen to me at about 6 wks pregnant. I am currently 22 wks and am still not doing too well Crohn's wise. I guess I was one of the lucky ones that pregancy made my Crohn's flare... lucky me lol. I am taking Entocort and also Humira 40mg which they just bumped up to every wk instead of every other. My Dr. doesn't seem to think that being on these meds is a problem. You read about all the risks of taking medications while pregnant but both my GI Dr and OB said that I need to be as healthy as I can be to have a healthy baby and if it takes meds to achieve that than so be it. Anyway I wish you the best and hope that you start feeling better.

I took Pentasa throughout my entire pregnancy and felt and did great! I also nursed while on Pentasa. My husband is a pharmacist and is very conservative with drug use, but he was comfortable with me taking Pentasa. My daughter is now 5 and, other than food allergies, is in great health!
