I posted a few weeks ago how exhausted I am. Since then I've seen a GI, who told me nothing other than to take caffeine and sleep more. I talked to my mom and she said she didn't know what to do. I have to work full time to support myself and when I'm not working I am either sleeping or laying on the couch. Today, I went on a few errands with my roommate, was gone for maybe an hour and am now exhausted. Nobody, quite grasps how exhausted the simplest things make me. I really want to work fewer hours, but if I do that then I will be in debt, as I'm only 23 I can't really get a high credit limit, and thats not what I want to do. I feel so hopeless. I don't think I could get disability especially as according to my docs my crowns is in rehmission, though I don't think it is. So technically there is no reason I shouldn't be able to work full time. I've just started "being an adult" supporting myself and working full time, and this is what happens my first couple months in. I am so afraid that this is what the rest of my life will be like and people just don't understand. This isn't living...I'm scared.

Keep ya head up kid... This will pass.
Talk to your family doc about
getting a blood test to check your hemoglobin levels and such. That will tell he/her if your vitamin and iron levels are low. I just did a few weeks ago because I had low energy ( it was found I had low vitamin d) and since have been taking more powerful supplements to boost them back up. This is a common problem with many crohns patients. Not necesisarly vit d, but any vitamin deff. Just hang in there until then. But I suggest you take action sooner than later, you'll feel more energy just knowing that you will soon have answers.

Fatigue is the worst. definitely see your doctor (either try a new one, or go to your GP) and get a full work up. I'm taking B12 and D3 and it's making a difference in my energy levels.
Since I live alone, and have to support myself, there are times it takes everything I've got to get through the day and then I crash when I get home from work. Let people help you as much as you can.

I would strongly urge you to get your iron levels checked. Having very low iron often is associated with low iron. Many take Palafer 200mgs. The thing is, it can take up to 6 months to see good results. Once again, I highly recommend this check, and be firm with your Dr. about
it. You may even have a family history of anemia.

I feel the same. Not as tired as you but definitely lethargic and not a lot of energy. I will be 26 next month and I too am now supporting myself however I'm not in remission. This disease sucks but I just tell myself it could be worse. Def get ur iron checked and even tho ur tired, try to walk..it will get ur endorphins going.

Yes, please get your iron and vitamin D checked. It's easy to get your vitamin D through supplements and that can really make a huge difference in how you feel. Most sources say your levels should be btwn 40 and 50 - many Americans, even those without Crohn's, have levels well below 20.
Iron is also something you can manage with supplements, but they're harder on your gut and in my experience anemia is trickier to resolve than low vitamin D.

Definitely get your B12 and iron/ferritin levels checked. You can start taking B-100 complex, which will probably help with energy.
Coffee might make you have more "d". Maybe green tea is a better caffeine option and good for inflammation, too.

I agree with the others, you need to have some blood work done. Get your vit.d3 levels checked too. It's common in UC and Crohns to have low levels of Vit., d3 and b12 as well.
Hope you feel better soon.

I am in agreement with all of the above as well, but also ask for a thyroid check as a low functioning thyroid will do the same.
Take care and feel better soon.

Dreamer, Sorry you're feeling so bad. I also agree you need to have your iron & B12 levels checked. I was feeling quite the same way until I had 4 iron infusions last fall. I was exhausted all the time and if i did find the energy to do anything "extra" I was even more tired the following days. I actually did a happy dance on Thanksgiving because I made it to the end of the day without feeling completely zapped. Take care.

I have to agree with everyone. Get your iron and B12 checked. In the mean time, start taking a multi vitamin. Some on here might say that it is hard for someone with CD to digest and absorb the multivitamins, but the gummy one's should be tollerable.
Feel better.

Thanks everyone for the advice, I think I am also depressed, which isn't helping. I have a job I don't really like and it doesn't cover the rent, and I work till 10pm most days and am on my feet the whole time. I keep looking for something else but it goes back to energy levels. I just don't have any before I go to work, trying to save it all and am to exhausted after I get home. I am going to call my GP and talk to them. I know I need to do something to change this.

To be honest, I'm not surprised you're tired. That would knacker me out; in fact I'm not sure I could even physically do it nowadays. And when you factor in depression as well, it's even less surprising. Depression can make you feel as fatigued and heavy as if you had the flu.
Could you return to live with your parents for a few months? Ask for a temporary sick note from your GP? Anything to give you a break and sufficient time in the day to look for a better job - preferably one where you can sit down.

Be encouraged...i just turned 29 but was originally diagnosed at 23.... It really sucks. Feels like what is supposed to be the best part of your life becomes the worst. My suggestion is if your doctors won't check your iron is to take b12.It also helps to eat liver or red meat once a week. I still struggle with fatugue but its hard to express where people understand how bad it really feels. Im new to this blog forum stuff but I will definitely have u n my prayers.
