i just started remicade and after i started i got a new tattoo and i noticed that this new tattoo takes a longer time to scab off and heal. But before i was taking remicade i had many other tattoos and they never took this long or looked the way this one does. does remicade have anything to do with the healing of tattoos or with tattoos at all???

In a nutshell: probably, yeah. Not with tattoos, but with healing. Immunesupressant drugs can sometimes cause slow healing, presumably because there are fewer white blood cells around to help heal wounds.

I definitely heal slowly since being on Remicade. I comes with the territory.

Pimfram- what do you mean "i comes with the territory" and does your tattoos look bad or different to you or do they come out the same?

Try taking Leviquin if you can get a script for it. My tat healed super fast when I took that even though I was on Remicade and Prednisone at the time.

I meant that slow healing comes with being on immunosuppressants. For the record, I have no tattoos but I do get cuts all the time at work and they take much longer to heal than 'normal' people.

I have a tattoo that I had done while on immunosuppressant medication. It healed up and looks fine, but it did take longer to heal then the one I had done while off of medication.

I'm also on remicade and have been since September 2014 and have asked multiple doctors about getting a tattoo. They have all told me no and have given me no reason. My mom is very upset with our doctors and has been looking for answers for me because I really want this. Is it really dangerous for me to get one or are they just being difficult?

I've got three and been on remicade for 6 years now.
I've never noticed anything odd about them because of the remicade.
And I've never asked anyone's permission before I got them either.

I just worry that there may be complications. I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis so not technically crohns but I've had doctors recommend I not get tattoos and I have wanted this one for awhile because it is a reminder of how strong I am because of this disease. I have also heard of doctors saying go ahead and get one but take care of it. I just worry there may be complications.

Doctors, following the principle of "first, do no harm" will generally tell anyone with compromised immunological status (whether due to illness or medication) to avoid tattoos. The decreased immune response does make you statistically more likely to develop an infection from this or any other invasive procedure. For most of us, our immunity isn't lowered enough by Remicade to even be noticible, so it really isn't a risk. However, a doctor who told you to go ahead and get a tat could face a lawsuit if you got a horrible flesh-eating infection as a result, so they tell you not to.

I have heard that there are other diseases we can get if the tattoo is not properly cleaned. Me being a worrisome person would clean it to perfection and listen to cleaning instructions, but are there diseases or a chance that the tattoo could come out deformed because of the remicade? I also believe that I have an immune system stronger than they think because I have had 2 roommates get bronchitis, the flu, and multiple cases of the cold and have not once gotten sick and didn't get the flu shot (although my doctor told me to and I forgot). I am just a worrisome person and apologize for the questions.
