I am sitting in the hospital right now with a partial small intestine obstruction. This is my 6th hospitalization with this problem since having a triple hernia repair. I also had rectal cancer in 2000 and I have a colostomy. These obstructions are the most painful health issue I have encountered. Yesterday, I was in serious agony...and I really am not a wimp...throwing up etc. To make a long story short (if it's possible for me to keep a story short) I am not on morphine and pain free but still haven't moved anything into my colostomy bag.
MY surgeons keep telling me there is nothing that can be done to lesson my risk of this happening over and over again. i understand that surgery can add more scar tissue and make the condition worse but does anyone know of ANYTHING that can help? I was hours from being on an over-seas flight when the latest obstruction occurred. I am 60 and very active. I love to travel and can't imagine dealing with this for the rest of my life. I would almost do anything to make eliminate re-occurrences.
ANY input would be so appreciated!
Thanks!
