A question for those who have had a fistulotomy:

I recently had a fistulotomy done this past Thursday. The doctor said since it was a rather shallow fistula, it was sufficient to just lay open the wound. So I have no seton or packing, which was a relief.

While there was no pain on the day of and the day after the surgery, after my first bm, I noticed a decent amount of bleeding from the wound area as well as small bits of blood in the my stool. There is also consistent drainage of blood, though it isn't much.

I was wondering is this is normal or not.

If anybody has had any experience with this, help would be much appreciated.

EDIT: After reading up on this more, I heard that Sitz baths were helpful. However, my doctor but in my instructions not to sit in the tub.

Is washing the operated area out with running water using the shower head sufficient? I'm finally on spring break, so I really want to get the wound manageable before school starts again. Thank you for your replies.
