Colonoscopy, movieprep and MAC anesthesia

Oh, joy. Todays GI visit won me a colonoscopy with MAC anesthesia and MoviePrep for clean out. Yay me :(

I have had thin stools for awhile and since I am in between leg surgeries, it is time to take a look at the colon before my other AVN surgery.

Question 1, has anyone heard Movieprep can damage kidneys? I thought I heard that in the past but cant find the link. Before I drink it in a few weeks, I would like your experiences.

Question 2- instead of simple sedation, my GI wants to take her time "looking around" in my colon so she wants me under MAC anesthesia, specifically Propofol. I have had this before but I wonder how common is this for colonoscopy?

I anticipate her finding plenty of scar tissue although she is guessing inflammation.

I just had a lovely colonoscopy today under MAC anesthesia. All of my more recent scopes have been done with MAC with no issues. I can't speak for the movieprep though.

Its the first I've heard of MAC but I have had Propofol for a couple of colonoscopies and I MUCH PREFER it to the usual Versed and Fentanyl!! It is very short acting, you are alert and aware so much sooner after Propofol, you wake up NOT feeling drugged and groggy and it hasn't left me nauseous as the Versed/Fentanyl combo always does. I LIKE being alert and aware so soon after the procedure. I like it a lot.

Propofol is more expensive and in most states requires a full anesthesiologist rather than "just" a nurse anesthetist for admnistration. Plus only those facilities w/full resuscitation and life support equipment are allowed to utilize it in most states as there is no reversal agent for it and they must be able to maintain until the effect wears off.

pmedic, I've had issues with thin stools and for years. I don't remember when it started, but my GI thinks it could be from bowel spasms.
