I stopped drinking soft drinks too, I drink mainly water or flavored water. My GI dr told me that the aspertame in a lot of soft drinks can cause digestive problems.
My husband bought a Soda Stream recently where you can make your own "soda" at home. It does not contain aspertame and the sugars are from Stevia, which is a natural sugar with zero calories. I have found I can drink these in moderation without any trouble.
As for diet, I eat a high protein diet with chicken, fish & turkey. I also eat a lot of sushi/sashimi. I very rarely eat red meat anymore as it seems to bother me. I luckily can eat dairy, but again, in moderation. I can eat cous cous, green beans, edamame, peas, squash and zucchini, and cucumbers. I love eating fruit too, blueberries, watermelon, strawberries and pineapple seem best!
No popcorn, salad, alcohol, majorly high in fiber veggies (broccoli, cauliflower, etc.) and absolutely nothing fried ever.
When I'm hurting, I stick to chicken soup broth and saltines. I sometimes drink ensure just to maintain calorie intake so I don't lose too much weight.
