Im doing great!! Follow up

I was recently diagnosed with CD and have been on a long road to getting my self healthy again. about a month ago i was a scrawny 104 pounds and was feeling like crap every day. After my hospital visit i was diagnosed and was given advice on what drugs i should take and which ones i shouldent but knowing me and my family we dident listen exactly. I was told i would be on 6 mp for life with the posibility of a few others. I can gladly say i am down to 15mg of prednisone and i am just taking vitamins as of now. I am currently 135 pounds and have started jogging and working out again and i am soo happy to say i feel better then i have ever felt in my life. I am hoping i will stay this way because if i do i dont think i will start on 6mp unless i start flaring again. Just thought i would keep you posted sorry if this is a little scrambled i had to write this on my iphone

Hey Drew, glad to hear you're feeling better. I'm going to burst your bubble a little bit, though, and point out that everything you're feeling is probably attributed to the prednisone. It is a very effective med at getting people into remission quickly. Unfortunately, once you wean off you have left yourself susceptible to another flare, because you haven't started the 6MP.

My understanding is that it takes a few weeks or months for the 6MP to become effective. Many DRs prescribe prednisone and 6MP together because right when you're stopping the pred your 6MP is starting to work.

If you are reluctant to take the 6MP, have you talked to your DR about other options for maintaining the remission you've achieved with the prednisone?
