I never had flagyl and I don't see why it's used for crohn's disease unless there is a fistula or complication. Flagly is too weak for intracellular bactera related to crohn, and for fistula and complications there are better antibiotics than flagyl according to my doctor. I think it's used because it's popular in general.
I heard it helps people but that might because like you said, your stool becomes loose and it might ease pain like that, but it doesn't seem to be effective to treat inflammation.
