Will predisone tappering cause back pain?

My cousin was on predisone for 7 months where she started at 40mg in Jan and  tappered down to 10mg by May.  She stayed at 10mg until she had her bowel resection on July 18th. After that she started tappering off completely by going to 7.5 for 10 days and then to 5mg for 10 days and finally to 2.5mg for 10 days and then off. 

At  about 7.5 mg,  she started having extreme pain in both sides of her lower back and sometimes in the hip joints and down the legs.  The pain is worst in the night when laying down.  After getting up in the morning,  the pain gets less and sometimes goes  away after a few hours only to come back after going to bed again.   She has been completely off predisone for over a week now and the pain continues every day and seems to be worst now.  Could this be a side effect from tappering off the steriod or something else?  If this is a side effect, how long will it last?

Yes just about equal to the hips or a little above and below, but in that general area.

I wouldn't go so far to say that prednisone weaning causes back pain, but crohn's inflammation can, kidney's can and so can the adrenal gland situated right on top of the kidney? However it is possible that as she's weaning it's making her more symptomatic. If it continues and the pain doesn't let up, she should go see a doctor to check where it's coming from. Her surgery was fairly recent, she needs to make sure she is healing up properly.
