I'm a little confused about
this one? They say one should follow a low residue diet to allow the intestines to rest. It's better than a fluid diet, as quite a few foods are allowed on this. Problem is if one is to continue such a diet, doesn't the bowel start to flat line? I ask this because if not enough bulk is taken in, it can't create volume and without volume or fiber there is nothing to push it along. At times I get this uncomfortable feeling, spells of urgency but when I run nothing much happens but a little bit of diarrhea. I may just walk away and get the feeling I need to go again but again and again there is not much there. If this happens enough in a day, I start to get a lot of rectal irritation and after that I start passing mucous strings. The mucous strings may not be connected to low residue, but it does occur around the same time that I'm passing very little and it is associated with burning that I feel in my rectal area? Could it be that instead of a low residue diet I need low fibre instead to help push things along?
I haven't taken metamucil for years, and wonder if I should try this again or is it a bad idea with inflammation and narrowing at the same time? Sorry if I've been asking a lot of questions lately, but I really need to find answers to help myself.
