This is my first time posting on here, but every time I google a Crohn's questions it leads me here. I was diagnosed with Crohns when I was 15 (22 yrs old now) and me and my brother both have had it the most severe of any people I've ever known of and actually all my dr's have known of. My brother (whos older than me and was diagnosed at 11) actually passed away 2 years ago. He had a lot of medical problems, but they all stemmed from his Crohn's. My paternal grandmother also has it, but nowhere as near as bad as we did. We tried every kind of medicine but eventually he had to have his colon removed and recently I had mine as well. After, the pathology report came back from two different places; one says its Crohns and another says its Crohns- colotis. I underwent all 3 surgeries to have the J-Pouch put in place and I got out of the hospital today. So far so good.
I'm nervous that it will come back. Since none of the medicines ever worked and my surgeon says "if its going to come back, it's going to come back. And theres nothing you can do to change that" Well I don't believe that, and I was wondering if there are more holistic approaches to keeping it at bay and in remission. My question is, what is your guys' opinion on the best foods, or supplements, or even sources of information about a more holistic approach to healing Crohn's? I know strong probiotics are great and a low residue diet. anything else? Thanks so much and sorry for the lengthy post. :/
