Getting Meds in the UK

Does anyone here live in the UK? I am an American student and I am getting my meds through the NHS. I need to refill them and they are saying I need to come into the GI and see them to get them refilled. Is this normal...I am used to just calling in to get my meds refilled. Then they also don't have an appointment for 2 weeks. This is new to me and a little frustrating, any advice?

I live in UK normal meds get on repeat prescription from gp. Although recently i have had stronger meds that i could only get one month at a time so had to ring specialist every month to get them then pick up from the hospital x
