Had my anal cavity dilated

So I was able to speak to my colon and rectal surgeon today to find what it is I had done when I had my exam under anesthesia on Friday. Since when he explained it to me on Friday I was a little woozy and didn't remember too much.

Well I spoke to him today and turns out he had dilated my Anal cavity.

He said it was narrow so he dilated it and put a few stitches.

I had never heard of that. I think it was to fix the fissure. And as I have posted before I was having a ton of mucus and I believe that was partly due to the fissure.
Has anyone else had that done? I was having a lot of pain during and after BM's, so could this help to not have that pain?

I haven't had my anus dilated, but I did have my esophagus dilated from strictures there. It wasn't painful to have the strictures, but they got so big that I could no longer swallow anything - they completely closed off my esophagus, and I ended up in the ER and did emergency surgery. It was painful to swallow afterwards for a few weeks. I'm not sure about the pain and mucus you were having - that almost sounds more like a fistula than a fissure. The fissure I had once just bled, no mucus.

I had it done it done last month during my Colonoscopy. I have Crohns in my Terminal Illieum and then it skips down to my anus. It gets so narrow that it feels like I am constipated but I am not cause all I ever have is diarrhea. Doc said lots of scarring, so 6 weeks gone by and it feels like glass coming out, he said we could do it again, cannot do that every 6 weeks. Hope yours feels better now

Hope you are better now. I have problems in my TI and rectum, too. I have incurable fissures and recurrent proctitis. Last year, my GI told me that I should not have any kind of dilatations. This year, he said that this is a stricture and it's up to the surgeon. When I reminded him of what he has said before, he called the surgeon and they agreed on my treatment. After two months, I'm relapsing again and things are becoming narrower. I'm expecting a kind of dilatation soon. If it would be a solution for the narrowness and the torture of having a bm, I'm willing to do it.
