Cimzia once a week?

My son has been taking Cimzia since January. It's not working too well so our doctor has increased the dosage to 200mg once a week. I have not seen this type of dosage recommeded anywhere online. Seems too much. Anyone heard of this or taking this type of dosage?

Wow, that seems a lot, I only take it once a month, Is insurance going to pay for weekly? I would be concerned with that much myself.

Cimzia did little for me. Doc took me off it. Remicade was better by a long shot. Then it caused side effects. That's when I was then put on Cimzia.

Is there any other drug your son can take?

And the comment about insurance is a great one, look into it.

Thanks for your concern. The insurance is covering it. It went through today. However, I called Cimzia myself (being the parent advocate) and they said that is "outside the recommended dosage" and is cause for concern. You should only be taking 400mg a month and he would be taking 800mg a month. He had a reaction yesterday which was concerning so I am not going to give him one shot per week. Even the specialized pharmacy we called said that the dosage is too much. His immune system would be inialated at that rate. I think the doctor doesn't know what to do next so he is just guessing. That really stinks! We have done Remicade (worked for 4 years), then Humira but he got an allergic reaction, now Cimzia but looks like we may be done with that. Next and final is Tysabri but I am very scared of the side effects. Wish us luck.

Good grief, scary that Docs just are not going with the correct amount per the pharmacy. I have done the Remicade, Humira and now Cimzia which may not last much longer either. My GI was mentioning Tysabri and I really did not listen well because it sounded so scary but what I do remember now is they have figured out what makes some people react so bad and they can now do a test to determine before if you would react, kind of like how we have to take a TB Test every year so he said that may be down the road soon,, not so sure still though. Good Luck on your decisions, hard to have to make for a kid.
