OK to get a new GI?

I was diagnosed 8 years ago with Crohns. I see my GI once a year. I have slight inflamation in my ileum/jejenum area. Most of my flares bring pain and occasional trips to the bathroom. My GI is very nice but I would like to have another set of eyes look at my records to see if they could do more for me. My GI is open to different things but really doesn't suggest much. If I went to another GI and found I really liked my other one better would it be OK to go back? Just wondering what the process would entail. I guess nowadays records just get sent to the new office by computer? Would my current GI actually know if I saw someone else for another opinion? There are other GI's in his office but I think I would look for another clinic. I live in Southern Maine and there are not alot to choose from so I don't want to burn any bridges. Also, what is the best way to find a good GI? I am not far from Boston so I would consider that but wonder if I can find just as good GI's in my area. As you can tell I am a little confused!! Thanks for your help.

Have you told your current GI that you are frustrated by the lack of progress? Sometimes an honest discussion about your needs and desires is the way to go, especially if you have a good relationship already.

In order to get a 2nd opinion, you will need a copy of your most recent test results. You should be able to get these without any trouble at your GI's office. There is no need for him/her to know you are seeking a 2nd opinion. But if the area has few GIs, no doubt they all know each other. DRs are just people, so some may be insulted if you get a 2nd opinion, and some may not. Hard to say.

Hi I agree with kazbern it never hurts to get a second opinion. You
may find a Gi doctor whom will listen to you and help.
