Have you told your current GI that you are frustrated by the lack of progress? Sometimes an honest discussion about your needs and desires is the way to go, especially if you have a good relationship already.
In order to get a 2nd opinion, you will need a copy of your most recent test results. You should be able to get these without any trouble at your GI's office. There is no need for him/her to know you are seeking a 2nd opinion. But if the area has few GIs, no doubt they all know each other. DRs are just people, so some may be insulted if you get a 2nd opinion, and some may not. Hard to say.
