I am brand new to this site and I've have spent over 2 hours just amazed how much support, aswers and helpful information is on this site. I wish I knew about
this site years ago. I am a Chrons/Ostomy patient. I was dx with Chrons when I was 17 years old, I am 34 now and I have had countless surgiers from removals of abcess, fistulas and of course the big one! I have been on every type of medication there is out there both passed and still in trial for Chrons and nothing helped. 5 Months ago I decided that I wanted to come off the pain medications that I was on but I knew that my body was going to be physically dependedant on them and I wasn't going to be able to handle that. Imagine that, Chrons patients who go through extrucating pain day and night can't handle a few fevers or chills! Well I called my insurance company and found a prescribing MD that provides Suboxone. I did my research on Suboxone and knew that was something I wanted. When I met with the MD we hit it off right from the start. I started my conversation with "I want to get off the pain meds" he said he could prescribe me with Suboxone. I then said ok, but I don't know what I am truly going to do when the pain does set in. I have a full time job that I have to go to and I know my body cant handle 10 Aleve or 10 Advils am I making a mistake coming off the pain meds? The MD then started talking to me about
how research has studied about
Suboxone helping people wanting to get of the pain meds but still have something to help them with there chronic issue. Well us Chrons patients we will try almost anything to stop the pain and feel normal even for 5 minutes. It was a Monday that I saw the MD Sunday night was my last pain pill that I took and I started my journey on the Suboxone Monday night.
My life was changed. By Wednesday, yes Wednesdsay I felt like a new person! My stomach? my back? my legs? ...felt nothing. NO PAIN! I was able to be functable at work, not feel the highs and the lows with the pills I was even keel all day long. I saw my MD on Thursday because on Suboxone you need to be monitored often (not like pain pills and just make your mothly re-fill call) When the MD came in I cried and thanked him. I told him that this was a "miracle" within 2 days of taking the medication I felt like a "normal" person. I have been on a very low dose for 6 months now. I take 8mg a day 1 in the am and 1 in the pm and I feel great! I also want to share that I was never mentally addicted to the pain pills I was physically addicted to them. I do not think about taking a pain pill, I have no desire to take because I don't feel pain. I am able to get out of bed like a normal person, I can walk the mall with friends, work all day long then go out and have dinner with my husband! Suboxone saved me. Now, I still have some pain which is all from the Ostomy but that is something I can now call discomfort. I am a Chrons Patient for life, it has taken my ability to have chidren, it has scared my body to no end, taken my self esteem and turned my life upside down. Now, I am pain free, smile all the time, go places and changed my upside down life for the better. I hope someone reads this and finds hope in this. I do not reccomemd Suboxone for everyone and it won't work for everyone but if it helped 1 person who has been suffereing from this disease 17 years 29 surgeries its worth a try
