Feraheme vs. Dextran iron infusion

Hi folks,
I had a Dextran iron infusion a couple of months ago and it took about 7 hours in the infusion clinic. This time, my doc ordered two doses of Fereheme a week apart. The Fereheme only takes an hour to administer. My doc didn't discuss this with me...I only found out when I called the infusion clinic for an appointment. I can't get in until Monday 7/22, which is quite annoying. I am wondering if anyone knows the difference between the two iron infusions besides the time it takes to administer? Thanks

Not sure if I can help. I had Dextran infusions that took about 4 hours. It takes a couple of weeks and then your red blood cells start rebuilding slowly over the course of a few weeks. It worked for me.

Is Fereheme a new product?
