imuran and tpmt enzyme activity

i am now considering starting imuran. i had my tpmt enzyme activity checked and it came back at 17.8 which is relatively high. I've read some literature that suggests that the drug may not be as efficacious compared to someone using it who has a lower activity level. Just wondering if there's anyone out there who's on imuran and having success with a tpmt level >15. thanks

Hi jp...I can't remember my exact result but I know my tmpt was in the normal range, but I still ended out with elevated liver enzymes and had to discontinue 6MP (similar to immuran) You may want to just go for it. Your GI can watch your blood levels closely and if you show abnormal levels, you can discontinue it. My levels returned to normal quite easily after stopping. I was disappointed it did not work for me, but the immunosuppressives have helped a lot of people.
