Path to surgery

Just moved to NH, new GI has terrible bedside manner and no eye contact. grrrr. Very few other GIs are taking new patients.
A recent MRE revealed ten inches or so of fibrotic stricture just upstream from my earlier bowel resection. Cimzia is doing a great job of keeping the disease under control, but I live in daily pain.
The two choices I have are pain meds (I'm already on too many meds) and surgery.

My question is this: I know I need surgery. I want to get surgery. My insurance will cover surgery. how do I set up a bowel resection surgery? Do I contact Mass General and find a Dr? Do I need to go through my current GI?

Does your INSURANCE require a referral? Does the specific surgeon you want to see REQUIRE a referral? I'm thinking that Mass General most likely does NOT require a referral but these are all things you need answers to.

Start w/your current gastro w/your questions and move on from there accordingly.

Good luck and God bless. I am quite convinced from my own experience that the longest remissions occur after surgery that was done when disease was inactive or at least under control.

By the way. I used to love the Zagnut candy bars but I haven't seen any for sale around here in a long time. *sigh*
