really bad abdomen pain with nausea and vomitting

HI my name is Laurie and I am 40 yrs old and I have had crohn's disease since 1994, I was only 21 when I was diagnosed!!! Well for the past 2 days I have been having really bad lower right side abdomen pain that radiates around to my back also I have been throwing up since yesterday afternoon!!!What I would like to know is should I go to the ER for this pain and vomiting??? I'm afraid that they won't believe me because I was just in the ER on Sunday for a really bad migraine. I suffer from migraines since I was 30 yrs old. I really want to  go to the ER and get some kind of pain control and something for the nausea, except I'm allergic to all of the anti nausea medications so I usually get 50 mg of Benadryl and that usually helps me. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!!

And I am calling my GI today to make an appointment!!!!

I suppose you could get yourself some benadryl and try that. But your right side pain worries me. I would use that phone call to your GI to ask if you can be seen by him today.

BTW, I am just getting over a migraine and it totally affected my bowels. Weird.

well I just called my GI doctor and his first available appointment is October 29 at 2:30pm so I guess I'm kinda stuck!!!! I guess I can go to the ER but getting there is a problem!! I live with my other and she never believes me when I tell her that I am having sharp pain in my belly and she will not take me to the ER!!!! She thinks that I'm addicted to the pain meds!! And I did try to take Benadryl at like 4:30 this morning and it didn't help usually I need the IV version of it!!!

Your GI should be able to fit you in given your pain level today. That's a shame that there isn't flexibility in his/her schedule to see a patient in good standing. Did you tell the person on the phone what you are experiencing today?

yes I did!! and she said that he is really full today and he is double booked almost all day!!! But I love my GI he has been my GI since I got diagnosed with Crohn's Disease back in September of 1994. So I do not really want to lose him he is a great doctor and he really listens to me and if I call him he always calls me back, not right away but he does call me back but I now that he would tell me to go to the ER!!!!

So then you should go to the ER. But I don't know what they are going to do for you there - you really need to be scoped or take a small bowel follow through - it's possible that you have a blockage in your ileum.

nope not a blockage cuz I'm still getting output from my ileostomy bag and my stomach isn't hard! If I go to the ER then they can give me fluids and pain medication and some IV Benadryl!!!!

Ah, you have a bag. Maybe you just have an ovarian cyst? Or maybe it's mittelschmerz, which can be awfully painful.

Wait, you have an ileostomy? Permanent one? How long have you had it for? Soz for the questions, but I am fairly new to having an ileostomy and it's rare to come across somebody with Crohn's who also has one... :-/

Meanwhile, I think it's worth going to the ER from what you've described, but I guess it depends on how bearable the pain/nausea is. You could try waiting it out one more day, sticking to a diet of thin liquids only (just in case it is a partial blockage...), and then going to ER if things are no better.

yes I have an ileostomy and I have had it for about 13 1/2 years now you are the only other person that I have heard of having one too!! Email me at [email protected]
