Chrohns showing up after UC removal

I've had my colon removed since 2008 but there is still inflammation and a narrowing of my intestine. My doctors believe that this Chrohns. Has anybody had this happen to them.

Unfortunately, what sometimes happens is that colitis turns out to be from Crohn's and not UC. A colectomy is not a cure for Crohn's. Sorry this has happened to you. Have you been put on any meds?

They would like to start humira but of course I'm concerned about the idea because I already get enought colds during season changes. As of right now xiflaxan has been the most conclusive drug that helped but the insurance is on the fence about covering it.

Do you have a j-pouch or ileostomy?

I had my colon removed in Feburary this year (it'll be 'next year' in one day's time >_>), but I had known Crohn's, so no hope of me having a j-pouch. No problems so far, but my stomach has been slightly iffy the past few days. #tellingmyselfitsibs

No other signs of anything amiss (stoma looks normal), which is good, because I can't face dealing with Crohn's round 2.

Anyway, if you have a j-pouch you might eventually have to revert to an ileostomy. Otherwise I'm afraid it's just more of the same old drugs and possible resection surgery for the narrowing. I'm sorry, I wish I could provide better news.

J- pouch unfortunately it's been having chronic pouchitis which isn't helping and well I'm kind of losing hope of it ever getting fixed. Kind of wish I stuck with the colostomy because it's more appealing everyday. Not really worrying about what eat ( with in reason) but I was 8 so the idea of living with a bag through middle school. I still don't relish the thought for my remaining 2 years of high school. Have to deal the card I'm dealt I guess.

Eek, didn't realise you were that young. You didn't sound it.

Not to sound like I'm nitpicking, but I think you meant ileostomy. A colostomy is formed from the colon and an ileostomy from the ileum. Ileostomies are usually sited on the right side of the body, and have much more liquid, acidic output than colostomies. Apart from that, though, you still have to wear a bag in both cases...

Anyway, you should be able to revert back to having an ileostomy, but if you did it would probably be permanent. I think it's worth continuing to try to treat the Crohn's medically, especially as you can still eat reasonably normally.

I'd keep pushing for the xiflaxan as well... can't believe the insurance company would deny something that actually helps you.
