Pred cause rapid heart rate?

Hi,, Yes it is a prednisone side effect. I had the same thing when I was in the hospital. The doctors and nurses kept checking my heart and there is no problem with it. Don't worry as soon as you taper off it will calm down. Take care!

yeah its the pred, when i was on 20 mg i was alway geting out of breath doing normal everyday things. hopefully it will pass in a week or two which is what happened to me when i was first taking it, after 3 or 4 months is where i started geting alot of sideffects. i've been off pred for about a month and the side effects are finally starting to wear off. hope you feel better and this passes, happy new year

Yes,pred can do that, but dehydration can as well. It sounds like you are in a bad flare up, so it may also be dehydration. Glad you went to ER. Maybe with hydration, it'll improve.

I'll chime in here...every time I'm anemic, my heart races. Now I use the heart racing symptom to know when to get my blood checked. My docs didn't believe me (gotta love 'em!) so I went through an EKG, holter monitor and stress echo and all was fine. I believe I also remember my heart racing from Prednisone, but it may be more of a jittery feeling I remember. 140 is very high...I'm glad you are going to the ER. I hope you are ok and can enjoy the new year. Next year will be better for you I hope! (Although you did get a beautiful baby, so it's not all bad!) Let us know what you find out.

does anyone know if budesonide can cause this symptom as well. I am the same, constant heaviness and pain in the left side of my chest for a couple of weeks, arm pain, shortness of breath, feels like my heart is beating rapidly.

So I ended up in the ER tonight. My PCP yesterday is convinced that the heart racing is because I suddenly have developed an anxiety disorder. Even though the heart racing is NOT accompanied by anything emotional. No panic, no feelings of anxiety or wanting to run, or pressure, or anything. He referred me to a cardiologist but in the meantime he gave me Zoloft just to see if it would help. His exact words were, "It'll help solve all your problems." Apparently people with anxiety are mistakenly diagnosed as having IBS and they have low pain tolerance, so this medicine is supposed to cure my D, take away my pain from inflamed RV fistula site, and control my heart racing..... *sigh*

The Zoloft was definitely a bad idea. In addition to not stopping the heart racing and shortness of breath, I had a really, really bad reaction. I got the shakes really bad, my brain felt heavy and foggy all day, and it kept getting worse until tonight I started having hallucinations. It was definitely not fun at all. So here I am admitted, and we'll see what happens.

I just hate to think this is going to reinforce my PCP's idea that it's all in my head. He really has been fantastic up until this point. I think he's frustrated that his simple answers aren't working for me.

Thanks @stef, I appreciate it. I just feel so dumb about all of it, and I hate it when I feel that way. I feel almost guilty when my body doesn't react the way my doctors want it to. I almost feel like I'm letting them down, lol.

I wanted to ask you if you felt comfortable emailing or something so that we could talk about things one-on-one from an LDS perspective. I don't want to open that up to the whole forum, but I don't know any other members with CD and it would be nice to be able to just ask questions or talk with that as part of the foundation, you know?

Hey I just wanted to chime in again....I was just cooking dinner (not exactly a strenuous exercise) and I felt really jittery, and my heart rate is at 128. I'm not on steroids now. I think for me it's anemia, and time to get my blood tested again. Scifi...I'm just making sure they tested your iron levels???

I'm bummed because I was doing pretty well for awhile, but just the past few days, my heart racing is back, and I saw bright and dark blood in my poop yesterday. Drats, this is a sneaky and evil disease!!!

I hate to hear that you are back in the hospital, but I'm glad you are there to hopefully figure out what is going on. In the past my heart racing starts when I'm even borderline anemic....the docs don't really thing that's the cause, but whenever my blood levels are normal, I don't have a racing heart. I hope while you are there, they can give you an iron infusion, as I think it may help. Keep updating us...I will be thinking of you and hoping to hear some good news soon!

My hubby was in the hospital with cdiff and a previous diagnosis of ulcerative proctitis. They did a sig scope and only the rectum was inflamed, but my hubby was in horrid pain, D like 30 times a day (all blood), couldn't sleep at night and losing weight. The GI told us the cdiff is under control and that he was experiencing IBS, and put him on elavil to reduce anxiety and help him sleep better. He also had tachycardia and got light headed very easily.

We insisted on a colonoscopy before being discharged from the hospital, and they found that his transverse colon was like hamburger meat. They couldn't even finish the scope. That's when they took him seriously and put him on steroids and eventually remicade.

I think doctors want the best for us and really want us to fit in with their optimistic diagnoses. My husband's GI is one of my favorite people because he is so kind and flexible when people are sick, but he nearly sent my husband home when he was deathly ill.

You really are very sick, and going through a very rough time. Your PCP means well, but he is doing you a dis-service. Hopefully being at the hospital will help you get answers. Personally, I wouldn't leave until I was feeling better. This is what we had to do for my husband. At the hospital you get tests and results quickly versus outpatient.

Pred at 50mg makes my heart feel like I drank 20 cups of coffee
