I think the reason you were told to try a Modulen diet is because of your age: if you'd been older, you'd have probably been put on a course of steroids instead.
However, if steroids are bad for adults, they're even worse for children and teenagers, so do try the Modulen diet first if you can. I have been on a couple of liquid diets, the longer one lasting for about 6 weeks. That consisted mostly of Fortisips, but in the evenings I would have some soup. I think it would've been harder without soups and home-made peanut butter/banana smoothies to break the monotony, but otherwise I found it surprisingly easy to follow. I wasn't hungry on it and I rarely craved 'normal' food. Admittedly, I had just been in hospital for 2 weeks and was in no hurry to go back in, so that provided additional motivation for sticking to a liquid diet.
My other liquid diet was something I wouldn't recommend to my worst enemy: it was an elemental diet. The drinks were called Elemental 028 and it was the foulest substance I have ever consumed. I lasted two weeks.
Anyway, check with your GI/dietitian if you are allowed any other liquids on the Modulen diet. I also believe boiled sweets are allowed on liquid diets, if you want a bit of crunch.
Good luck! Hope it works and that it's not as bad as you fear.
