I think genital herpes is just another variant of the type of herpes that causes cold sores. When my husband was first diagnosed with crohns and on remicade and pred, he got frequent cold sores. They treated it with a pill called valtrex, that was really like magic. One day he felt a cold sore cropping up, he took the drug and it was gone.
Since he came off the pred, he has not had frequent outbreaks. I believe this is the same drug used to treat genital herpes as well, and I think you can also take it daily to prevent outbreaks. I think you will be ok. The hard part is not knowing how the future will turn out and thinking it might be the worst. So, hang in there, take it one day at a time, and if you are having trouble with GH, treat it aggressively to keep it at bay (just like you would crohns).
Hang in there. It's just a virus. And one for which there is effective treatment. So, I expect that this will just be a small bump in the road and will not be impossible to manage with Crohn's disease.
