C. Diff. vaccine

I received an email today from Center Watch, which monitors clinical trials all over the country. You can sign up for alerts about conditions and locations that you might be interested in.

This email is for a trial for a vaccine for c. diff. This one is located in San Antonio, but they might have more across the country. Anyway, just thought I'd share for anyone who might be interested!

As soon as this is on the market, I will be first in line. C-diff is the devil! I would not wish this crap on my worst enemy.

How are you feeling? Are you out of the hospital?

Yeah, I was thinking back to when I was pumping and breastfeeding. A gradual wean is always the best. With that in mind, have you considered night weaning?

I had a terrible oversupply problem with my first daughter that left her very colicky. I had to reduce my supply and the best way to do that without skipping a feeding is to simply feed one side only at each sitting. I had to pump just to relieve pressure on the un-drained side, but I was able to reduce supply pretty effectively this way without getting mastitis.

I did a similar thing when I night-weaned my 2nd child. She nursed full time well into her 3rd year of life and I was losing a lot of sleep. So we cut waaaaay back on her night time feeds, first by just reducing the duration of her nursing sessions. I think you could do the same with the pump. Gradually shorten each session until you feel like you can then space them out. If you night-wean you can get more continuous and healthy sleep. I'm pretty sure you have a stash of frozen milk that will keep your daughter fed for weeks if not months.

I'm glad to hear your fungal infection problems are getting better and I hope they stay far away from now on!

If you would consider doing a short pumping at 10 pm, right before bed, and then wait until 6 or 7 am for your morning pump, you probably won't even see a dip in supply. Morning hours are when prolactin is at its peak and your supply will be abundant. I'll bet you can do a 6 am pump and then again at 9 am and you may even see an increase in your stash.

Cabbage leaves are a well-known way to reduce supply. If you have to do a quick reduction in lactation that is the way to go, but it sounds like you are not there yet.

Wow, I spend too much time on facebook - I just tried to "like" your comment, @kazbern! :) Before I change times, I will need to see what my baby's schedule is like (my husband told me it's changed a bit while I've been sick). The times I listed above fit perfectly in between her feeding and nap times, which is part of why I set them up that way.

Still in hospital, though. My blood just doesn't really want to thin out. I am really hoping tomorrow the labs will hit the magic number!
