Doc found inflamaation and biopsy was negative. Wants me on 6mp? I read about it and at 71 decided to wait.

Did your doctor give you any alternatives? where is your inflammation located?

Arna, Age doesn't matter with this disease, I hope you get some medicines that will help you. Everyone has that one drug they will never try or get bad results from. My drug is the 6MP. I got so sick from that drug. Spent 17 days in the hospital because it was to toxic to my liver. I got very anemic and was in isolation for 4 days because my white cell count got dangerously low. It took about 3 months for that to get thru my system. Needless to say I don't like that drug. It has helped a lot of people. I was just one of the unlucky ones that it didn't work for.

I wanted to give my perspective on 6mp, since I've been on it for 2 years now. I was terrified of 6mp after reading all of the forums and side effects. I have successfully be on it without any issues for 2 years. In fact, for the first time in 7 years, I'm able to leave my house without trepidation of looking for a bathroom at every place I go!
Unfortunately, ALL of the meds for Crohn's seem to have side effects that are horrible! With reference to dybeye's answer, it does take 3 months for the meds to get in (or out) of your system and I was sick all three of those months waiting for it to work. It's an old, slow moving med, but it works for me. I am so thankful to finally find a medicine that works! Also? With my insurance, it's only $5, which is a serious plus and it's an easy pill to take daily!
