I was doing some research and found that
Drug Site of release Usual dose
==== =========== ==========
Asocol Ileum and colon 800-1600mg two to 4 times daily
Pentasa Small bowel and colon 1g three to four times a day
My 8 year old daughter has inflammation in her terminal ileum and her colon. SHe is currently on Pentasa 1.5 gms a day and some times takes Rowasa. Is this the correct medication for her? Her inflammation is just ileum and colon. That would mean that Asocol would have been the better medication instead of Pentasa which releases throughout small bowel and colon as asocol would release in ileum and colon where her inflammation are found. I'm concerned that Pentasa is releasing medicines in wrong areas and not where it is needed most.
Is her Pentasa dose ideal for her age and weight? What is the usual dosage of Pentasa for pediatrics? Do you think she is getting correct dosage of Pentasa?
